Upon reaching the confirmed meeting time, our guide and driver will greet you in the hotel lobby and accompany you to the Leather Shadow Play class. The class venue, whether held in the historic Small Wild Goose Pagoda or the culturally rich Gao Family Courtyard, both nestled in downtown Xian, promises an immersive experience. Small Wild Goose Pagoda boasts Yanyuan, a quaint garden offering diverse traditional Chinese folk activities such as Shadow Play, Calligraphy, Rubbings, and Han Chinese Clothing dressing. Gao Family Courtyard, a venerable 400-year-old residence, allows you to explore the layout of an affluent Chinese family’s house from ancient times post-class, adding a historical touch to your visit.
Arriving at the theater or Gao Family’s Courtyard, you will first go to the room behind the scenes supporter to see leather figures and some other performance tools. If you want to try it in person, just feel free to ask the local artist to teach and try handling the figures to have a first impression of leather shadow. Then, enjoy the show appreciate time. The local artists will perform 1-2 shows. After the show, the artist will teach you how to perform a leather shadow play. You will find it demands strong coordination.
After a pleasant time at Gao Family Courtyard or Small Wild Goose Pagoda, you will be escorted back to the hotel.
