5 Days Zhangjiajie and Fenghuang Ancient Town Tour

Day-by-day Itinerary

1. Day 1: Arrival in Zhangjiajie

   Welcome to Zhangjiajie, a city famous worldwide for its Avatar's floating mountains! Upon arrival at the airport, you will be greeted by our arranged local driver at the arrival hall and transferred to your carefully selected hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to explore the city.

   You can take a self-guided tour to Xibu Street, a characteristic commercial pedestrian street where you will find floating bars, famous Chinese snacks, folk handicrafts and more.

2. Day 2: Zhangjiajie Tour
   Discover 'Hallelujah Mountain' from Avatar in the Real World

   Your guided Zhangjiajie group tour begins today! After breakfast, meet your tour guide at your hotel lobby at 9:00 am. Then, we will head to the Yuanjiajie Park and take the Bailong Elevator, the world's tallest outdoor lift built onto the side of a huge cliff, to reach the Yuanjiajie mountain platform. Enjoy the beautiful scenery during the ride.

   

   Then, venture from Yuanjiajie's summit with a 1.5-hour soft hike into the Southern Sky Pillar, which is claimed to be the prototype of the "Hallelujah Mountains" in the well-known film Avatar.

   After that, have lunch at a local restaurant, KFC, or food vendor at your own expense.

   In the afternoon, your guide will take you on a shuttle bus to Mt. Tianzi, a typical quarts sandstone landform that is characterized by piles of dense peaks. Visually, the view is different from other parts of the park: the peaks are much thinner and sharper. Since it has the biggest opening platform, we can definitely experience the most spectacular view of the sandstone peak forest.

   After the visit, take the cableway down and return back to the hotel for a good rest.

3. Day 3: Zhangjiajie Tour
   Challenge to Walk on the World's Longest and Highest Transparent Glass Bridge

   After breakfast, you will be led to explore the Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon and Zhangjiajie Glass Bridge. Walking in the longest and highest glass bridge in the world is truly a challenge for everyone, but also a wonderful experience as you can have a whole view of the Grand Canyon.

   Don't be afraid of passing through this bridge since you will enjoy the magnificent scenery such as the flying waterfall, the surging river...

   

   In the afternoon, have an in-depth visit with Golden Whip Stream, one of the most beautiful sites in Zhangjiajie. The stream winds its way through the hills and valleys and got its name because of passing by the Golden Whip Rock. Just listen to the murmurs of the stream; stroll along the valley and stop to watch the fish swimming in the crystal clear water.

4. Day 4: Zhangjiajie to Fenghuang Tour by Bullet Train
   Experience the World's Longest Cableway & Enjoy Picturesque Mountain Views

   After breakfast, visit Tianmen Mountain National Park. Firstly, drive to the cableway base to take the cable car up to the top of Tianmen Mountain. With a length of 7,445 meters, Tianmen Mountain cableway is regarded as the longest cableway in the world. The one-way cable car ride usually takes about 28 minutes. And the half-hour riding is an excellent chance to see the picturesque scenery of the mountain.

   Arriving at the mountain top, you will first pay a visit to Tianmen Temple, the Buddhist activity center in the western Hunan Province built in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). Next, you'll take a walk on the Skywalk built with transparent glass. For some people, it is really a test of courage!  Then, move to the Tianmen Cave (Heaven's Gate). It will take about half an hour to walk through the famous cave. Then, take a shuttle bus down to the mountain foot by the 99-bend Road - the scenic round hill road.

   

   After lunch, you will be guided to Junsheng Sandstone Painting Gallery to see unique painting arts. Then, you will head to the train station to take 1-hour high speed train to Fenghuang Ancient City.

   Upon arrival, your guide will help you check in to your hotel and you will have the rest of the day to explore this charming old town at your own pace. Stroll along the cobblestone streets, admire the well-preserved wooden houses and soak in the unique atmosphere of this riverside town.

   Stay overnight in Phoenix Town.

5. Day 5: Departure from Fenghuang
   Morning Boat Ride on Tuojiang River, Explore Fenghuang Highlights

   In the morning, we'll take a boat ride on the Tuojiang River, which offers a different perspective of Fenghuang Ancient Town. The boat ride will take you past ancient bridges, traditional houses, and scenic spots along the riverbank.

   Next, we'll have a look at Rainbow Bridge, East Gate Tower, and Wanming Pagoda, among other cultural highlights of the town. You'll have some free time to take in the last views and explore any spots you may have missed.

   

   Our Zhangjiajie and Fenghuang tour ends in this ancient town. In the afternoon, you can fly directly from Tongren Phoenix Airport. If you prefer to leave from Zhangjiajie, please buy a ticket after 8 pm. (Contact us to find out how to get to Zhangjiajie)
