Zhangjiajie Tianmen Mountain Day Tour with Skywalk

Tianmen Mountain is an incredible place in Zhangjiajie, with the scenery literally out of the world. At 8:30 in the morning, your local tour guide will pick you up from your hotel lobby and take you to start an amazing Tianmen Mountain day trip.

Tianmen Mountain boasts the longest cableway in the world, at a length of 24,459 feet (7,455 meters). You will take the cable car up to the top of the mountain in about 28 minutes. You’ll have a really thrilling experience, soaring high above the city, countryside, villages and the mountains through the sky. It’s like a wonderful journey into a fairyland.

Guess what will come next after getting off the cable car? It is not for the faint of heart, but if you are the kind of person who thrives on excitement, you will love this part very much. It’s the Glass Skywalk extending from the cliff, 60 meters long and 1.6 meters wide. Its highest point is 1,430 meters above sea level. You can’t imagine how it was built.

Then, you will be guided to walk along the Ghost Valley Plank Road. Here you will have the feeling of walking on clouds if you happen to visit Tianmen Mountain before or after the rain. On a clear day, you can witness clusters of peculiar peaks as well as lush plantations. Afterwards, take the chairlift to reach Tianmen Mountain Temple.

Built in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), Tianmen Mountain Temple is the Buddhist center of western Hunan. A lot of Buddhist followers come to pay respect to Buddha. You can wander around to appreciate the beautiful architecture and take in Buddhist culture.

Descending from the top of the mountain by tunnel escalator, we will then come to Tianmen Cave (Heaven’s Door Cave), a natural water-eroded cave with the highest elevation in the world. In ancient times, people believed that it was the gateway to heaven. It is also a place where miracles happen. In December 1999, famous aerobatic masters successfully flew through the cave. Since then, it has attracted many extreme sports enthusiasts.

The 999 steps are a challenge. If you are physically fit, don’t let go of the challenge. But please note that it is not suitable for the elderly, little kids, and those with heart problems, poor knees or those who are scared of heights.

At last, you will take a shuttle bus down the mountain via the winding road with 99 bends. It’s an extraordinary feat of engineering. The local government invested a hundred million yuan to build the road. Please rest assured that the drivers are very experienced. After the tour, your local driver will transfer you back to your hotel.

Good to Know:

In winter, in case of heavy snow or severe cold weather, Tianmen Cave and Ghost Valley Plank Road may be closed. Your guide and consultant will adjust your itinerary accordingly.

There are some restaurants in the Tianmen Mountain Scenic Area that you can choose for lunch (at your own expense). The prices are a little higher and the taste is not as good as in downtown restaurants. We suggest you bring some food for your lunch.
