4 Days In-depth Xilingol Grassland & Nomad Life Tour

Day-by-day Itinerary

1. Day 1: Xanadu Arrival

   Upon arrival in Xilingol, the local driver will pick you up at the airport or train station and transfer you to the Xanadu Summer Pasture.

   Xanadu is the historical site in Inner Mongolia that served as the summer capital of Kublai Khan’s Yuan dynasty. Here experience the Mongolian culture and lifestyle. And admire the wonderful views of the grassland and mountains that surround you.

   In the evening, enjoy a Mongolian home-cooked dinner including roasted lamb, milk tea, cheese, and yogurt. And you will overnight in a Mongolian yurt in Xanadu.

2. Day 2: Xanadu Nomad Life Tour
   Enjoy the Grassland Scenery and Experience an Exciting Sand Slide

   For breakfast, you can taste locally produced milk and dairy products, such as milk skin, milk tofu, and milk candy.

   After breakfast, walk to Jinlianchuan Grassland, the highlight of your Xanadu tour in Xilingol. Explore the blend of grassland scenery and Mongolian ethnic customs here. Admire the vast grasslands, clear rivers and abundant wild plants. And from July to August every year, the golden flowers will bloom and form a picturesque landscape with the grassland. In addition, engage with local nomads who will introduce their customs, traditions, and beliefs.

   

   For lunch, you will have a picnic on the grassland with fresh air and warm sunshine.

   Then experience the sand slide at a nearby sandy land. Glide down the sand dunes on a wooden board for a novel experience. And try to keep your body balanced during the process and raise your legs slightly to avoid injury.

   

   As the night falls, return to your yurt for a BBQ dinner. You will enjoy traditional Mongolian music and long songs, such as the famous horse-head fiddle performance. Experience Mongolian culture and customs and immerse yourself in the lively vibe.

3. Day 3: Xanadu Tradition Tour
   Experience Traditional Mongolian Activities and Taste Local Cuisine

   In the morning, you will continue the tour in Xanadu of Xilingol, Inner Mongolia.

   After breakfast, experience a horse ride to appreciate the scenic beauty of the grassland. Learn the art of mounting, steering, and controlling a horse with your guide on the grasslands. You can feel the freedom of riding through the grasslands while admiring the magnificent views.

   Next is archery, a traditional sport and skill of the Mongolian people. Master the techniques of holding, aiming, and shooting to practice your accuracy and strength. Also engage in friendly competition with friends or family to test the results of the practice.

   After lunch, learn more about the art of making dairy products. Under the guidance of your host, you can use fresh milk from cows or sheep. Also enjoy the local snacks like fried dough twists, sesame cakes, and dried fruits.

   In the evening you can taste a home-cooked dinner shared with your host. Interact with the locals to know about their stories and nomadic life.

4. Day 4: Xanadu Departure
   Learn to Make a Mongolian Yurt

   The 4-day Xilingol tour of Inner Mongolia will end today. After breakfast, learn to craft a genuine Mongolian yurt with local herdsmen. Witness the process of constructing a wooden frame, covering it with felt or skins, and decorating it with colorful patterns. Participate in dismantling and packing the yurt, and gain insights into the nomadic lifestyle and culture.

   Finally, you will be transferred to the Xilinhot Airport or Zhangjiakou Railway Station for your departure.
